Dedicated to DKG

There is a new interpretation board next to Village Green pond, dedicated to the memory of Dave Galliers, known to his many followers as DKG, our in-house photographer until his death in 2020.

At a Wednesday workparty, on a sunny morning at the end of May, Dave’s wife and family met the Friends of Southwick Country Park and representatives from Wiltshire’s Countryside team to install the new interpretation board and to raise a mug of tea and a digestive biscuit to his memory. The board’s cost has been met by the generosity of his family and a collection taken at Dave’s 2020 funeral.

Dave loved the park. He walked here most days with his camera bag on his back, recording the changing landscape and its inhabitants for us. Many of those photographs have been used to illustrate our beautiful new interpretation boards. He was a passionate conservationist and would have been so proud when we finally achieved Local Nature Reserve status for the park in January of 2021.

The Village Green pond was one of his favourite places; he photographed its many moods and obsessed about the early morning light reflected on the water.

    1. He used to share his photographs of the park with all the FoSCP members and the Countryside Team. We would be emailed an excited link to his OneDrive account to be shown his latest finds. Lovely!
