Here is a fascinating little video of a peacock butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Every year there are nests of peacock caterpillar among the nettles by the path in Simpson’s Field so, by the end of July, we should see this year’s beautiful adults in flight.

A beautiful little video – perfect interlude to practice mindfulness. Just out of interest, what is the bird singing in the background?
I think it’s a song thrush.
Southwick Country Park: Thank you
Catherine Henchman: being a mindfulness teacher I think that is a beautiful idea!
All the birdsong I publish on the website is downloaded for free from a website called xeno-canto (I’ll put the link below). Ask it for blackbird, song thrush or nightingale and choose a long one. Like a lot of free downloads, if you are going to publish, you will need to credit whoever uploaded the file and the creative commons licence but the info is all there for you. Really easy to use.
