Hello Max,
What a brilliant find and a new species for the reserve. Thank you for telling us.
Did you get a GPS reading of the place where you took the photograph (some cameras or smart phones do that automatically) or can you provide a six figure map reference? We submit the reserve’s records of new species to the Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre and they usually need some accurate measurement of where it was seen.
I have forwarded your mail to Ian Bushell, our invertebrate specialist, and he may be in touch.

Hi Suzanne
I have attached a screenshot from Google maps [51.300400,-2.234070] to show where I saw the silver washed fritillary. My wife and I also have an Instagram page called mane_flora_fauna and a lot of the pictures are taken in the reserve.

Hi Ian,
This is where the silver washed fritillary was seen. The GPS co-ordinates/grid reference is at the top of the screenshot. Can we list it on Max’s say so?

Hi
More than happy to add it to our species list under Max’s name. I will try and meet up with him. I last saw a Silver-washed Fritillary (Argynnis paphia) on the edge of Longleat about 2-3 years ago. I go there fairly regularly to collect Rhododendron for a couple of phasmid species I have.

Good morning Max,
Ian will add the silver washed fritillary to our species lists under your name, with the coordinates you provided and we will pass your findings on to WSBRC. We are always happy to receive photographs of the reserve’s wildlife but a new species is a real bonus. Thank you.
Suzanne
