We have European hornets (Vespa crabro), common wasps (Vespa vulgaris) and German wasps (Vespa Germanica), all resident in the reserve. Here is a fascinating video of European hornets preying on wasps.
I saw a European Hornet on my deciduous ceanothus this morning. I wasn’t sure what it was until I checked your post!

Excellent! Don’t be alarmed by their size and the helicopter noises. The are not anyway near as aggressive as the common wasp and if you leave them alone, they will leave you alone.
