Ten lords a-leaping

On the tenth day of Christmas, here are the extraordinary flowers of lords-and-ladies, the wild arum (Arum maculatum), photographed in the park during April’s lockdown.

    1. Indeed – and lots of the common names reflect that: devils and angels, cows and bulls, soldiers diddies, priest’s pintle, cuckoo-pint (pintle and pint are archaic words for penis), Adam and Eve, naked girls, naked boys.
