Work party report

A work party report from Ian Bushell

Attached is the Work Party sign-in sheet for 23 Feb 2022 and the LANTRA Hand Held Hedge Trimmer listing of qualifications – I’ll bring the original next time.

[1] Certification! [2] Storm damage

It was good to have Countryside Officers Ali Rasey and Gemma Thorp working with the Friends today.  We were all somewhat dispersed around the reserve, much dependent on clearing up after the storms last week.  David continued with clearing and securing the apple trees in the heritage orchard.   Patrick, Joan and Gemma removed the door damaged  by vandals from the Notice Board by the main entrance.  Trish and Sarah returned to the copse to continue cutting back bramble and undergrowth prior to the removal of the diseased Ash.  Clive and Phil tidied up storm damaged trees around Fiveways and also the Blackthorn Tunnel, Frank cleared drainage channels along the hard path between the pond and the footbridge into Village Green while Ali and I cleared the cut through by the Ancient Oak and helped Frank.

[3] Heritage Orchard [4] The notice board that has been vandalised.

We all met for coffee at the picnic area, enhanced by the biscuits provided by a dog walker as a thanks to Phil for removing barbed wire from an area used by her dogs.

Ian

p.s. Ali, I think I left my gloves in the Land Rover.

    1. Yes, the best of them are in the copse on the left hand side as you cross the decorated bridge into Village Green. There are, this year, clumps coming up in all the woodland.
