Roesel’s bush cricket…
…photographed in the reserve by Clive Knight.
Male adults start to sing (stridulate) this month to attract females. When the weather is hot and sunny, their song is almost continuous, consisting of a penetrating, high pitch buzz. It sounds just like the hissing of overhead electricity wires.

There is a peak temperature for stridulating and the cricket will chase the sunshine through the grass all day to find just the right spot.
