A marbled white (Melanargia galathea) on creeping thistle flowers, photographed in the park yesterday by Julie Newblé. If you look carefully, there are at least three common red soldier beetles hidden in the picture.

Southwick Country Park Nature Reserve 
There used to be a small colony of Marbled Whites in the fields on the Trowbridge side of the river close to the park near St John’s Church.
Thank you for that information; I’ll pass it on to Ian Bushell, who monitors our Lepidoptera. There are lots of marbled whites this year, all over the park. It’s been really encouraging; lovely to see them.
Nice picture Julie. This has been the best year for Marble Whites since we started surveys in 2013. Noted them in all fields in the park, best was 12 at the top of Village Green in the fenced off area,.
