CHRISTMAS FAIR

The Friends of Southwick Country Park will be running a stall at Hope Nature Centre’s Christmas Market today from 11am to 3pm.

Come and visit us; discover more about the park and the people who look after it.

A message from a visitor:
” Hi. we visited your park today, and my 2 year old daughter has lost her bear, itโ€™s a long shot but if anyone has handed in a brown bear with a blue tee shirt, possibly left in the car park, could you contact me as we are now back in Kent.”

While we were clearing the undergrowth from under the veteran oak trees in the copse between Sleepers and Sheep Field, we found the secret place, among the ivy and blackthorn, where somebody had hidden their plastic bags full of dog poop.

” You may already know but I noticed the damaged rail around the Lone Oak as I walked the dog round this afternoon. I didnโ€™t notice any damage yesterday.”


The Lambrok in flood

Clive Knight has sent in his pictures of Lambrok Stream in flood. Take care, particularly if you have children with you; the water is deep and fast-flowing when the stream is this full.

Baby Squirrel

Dear FoSCP,
Thought youโ€™d like these photos of a juvenile squirrel discovered in the park yesterday. I think it was probably ground feeding as there were no signs of injury and he scampered up the nearest tree after a brief look around! Lovely little chap ๐Ÿ˜Š

If anyone is wondering about the Wiltshire Housing Plan and its proposals for the area off Church Lane, it seems that you will have to keep on wondering for some time more. We have not forgotten about it and are watching โ€œprogressโ€. The wheels of bureaucracy grind on very slowly but hopefully this will be of advantage to those of us who love Southwick Country Park. We need to ensure that the planners get it right.

River Day

Under the heading of A Better Biss Approach (ABBA), Wiltshire Wildlife’s Water Team have been conducting a series of events designed to bring the waterways of the Biss Valley to public attention. Yesterday Alice and Nick from the Water Team came to Southwick Country Park for a River Day, to take a group of children and adults dipping in the Lambrok Stream.
